how to polish aluminum to prevent rust?
I have a lot of bicycle parts from aluminum. I can buy yard sale bikes and restoring them as a hobby. Meny of these bikes suffer from neglect, being in the rain, etc. .. Does anyone know how to clean badly oxidized aluminum parts, and is there anyway to protect Polished aluminum oxidation? For example I have a couple of buckets exspencive Campagnolo, a new pair of values of age as mine recently sold on eBay for $ 300.00, for you can see my dilemma. These centers will again in a very nice luged steel frame, I am restoring my fleet of classic bicycles. I guess to sum things I do not want my high dollar center set to turn into Alkselzer! Can anyone help!
Fitz makes a good polish like Brasso. Try a layer transparent urethane or lacquer after polishing. It will not last forever, but you keep grinding all the time.
