For new cyclists, it is important to think about what kind of bike that will do. Most people will either mountain bike or road bike. Road bikes are specially designed for paved surfaces and high speeds. Mountain bikes are designed for rugged terrain and stability. Road bikes were originally developed for racing and have some unique characteristics. For starters I have outlined some of the features of current bicycle road riding.
